RAMESHWAR VIDYALAYA, CHIKHALI, RESTORATION PROJECT

The Shri Rameshwar Vidyalaya High School in Chikhali is the only institution available for higher schooling in the village. It is a private, aided institution that offers education at highly subsidised fees to the students of 5th to 10th grades. The students would otherwise need to go to Ahmednagar city for education which is nearly 30 Kms away from the village.

At the time of initiation of the restoration project, there were a total of 211 students from the 5th to 10th standards with approximately 150 girl and 61 boy students. The high school authorities expressed the various needs for the benefit of the students.

Tiling of classroom floors

The school had 8 classrooms, all of which have concrete flooring. The flooring is covered in holes and small pits from years of use. The small podiums where the teachers stand and teach also had cracks in them. The floor’s condition presented a health hazard and affects the learning environment of the school.

Flooring work including tiling work of the classrooms, with the provision of a Tandur Tile

including cement float, filling joint with cement, curing and polishing for an area of

423.64 sq m with chequered tiles (30cm*30cm) for an area of 7.13 m was provided as proposed.

60 benches for classrooms

Students of the 7th and 8th standard were sitting on the floor to attend their classes due to insufficiency of benches. Additionally, the available benches were in poor condition.

The L.K. Jha Foundation team carried out a field visit in September 2021 to evaluate the request made by the school authorities.

60 Desks and benches in classrooms with dimensions at 36"X30"X30", wooden benches in

various colours with powder coated metal frames were supplied as proposed.

Safe drinking water supply for students

The students of the Rameshwar Vidyalaya, so far had access to unfiltered hard water sourced from the borewell in the school premises. Hard water consumption can lead to serious illnesses in the long run. Hence it was proposed to construct a system to provide safe filtered water for the students.

A Reverse Osmosis (RO) water system was constructed with a water tank for storage, 2 taps for supplying drinking water, and a system to re-route water thrown out of RO water system to a newly built handwash area.

Hand Wash Area with 4 taps

As the school lacked a dedicated hand wash area, a special hand wash area was built using the water was built for the students for ensuring hygiene and cleanliness. The water that is thrown out from the filtration of hard water through the RO system is being recycled towards the hand wash area ensuring no wastage of water.

Feedback from some students echoing the sentiments of their classmates at Rameshwar Vidyalaya

“Thank you for such great facility that you have made available to our school. Be it water, sanitation block or lights in our classrooms…. there is no sanitation block like ours in the entire Shreegonda Taluka.

"You have given us many such facilities and I hope you continue your work in our village”.

“You have given us so many facilities- washrooms, hand wash area, drinking water. Previously we had to walk long distances to go to washroom. Thank you!”

“You have given us the facilities that we required like a water tank and good bathroom. We will form groups and clean the bathrooms every day”.
